02 - The Link between Opera and the American Musical
Tues Class | Available (Annual Enrollment Required)
Facilitator - Ron Small
From Offenbach in the 1850’s, to Gilbert and Sullivan in the 1870’s, and from The Golden Age of Strauss II to the Silver Age of Lehar, the operettas kept audiences entertained for a century. Operettas were more lighthearted than the opera but as a genre gave way to the American Musical many of the songs are still remembered, although the original productions are forgotten.
Via videos this class will see and hear some of these works.
You will go away each week with a beautiful tune on your mind.
