This class explores the expansionist adventure of Spain from the 1400’s through the Peace of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War in 1648 A.D. The focus will be on how colonist states impose their culture upon a new land, only to have that new culture intermingle with the old ways of the indigenous peoples. The result is an always-morphing new ethos that survives and thrives into the present day.
