· Identifying informative assessment tools, as well as what works and what doesn’t.
· Adapting functional assessment tools to meet the needs of any communicator.
· Assessing writing, including understanding what is considered writing and the evidence to collect in order to assess it.
· Understanding and interpreting phonological assessment as it relates to students with complex communication disorders.

Engage in learning about, discussing, and practicing various intervention strategies, including:
· The benefit of teaching spelling as a strategy for increasing communication flexibility.
· The diversification of teaching materials as a strategy for advancing literacy skills and supporting student progress.

Participants will gain a stronger understanding of the relationship between comprehensive literacy skills, verbal communication ability, and literacy as a supplemental communication skill.
