This course examines issues related to designing and implementing developmentally appropriate intervention practices and individualized services/supports for young children (0-6) with disabilities or developmental delays. Students will develop a strength-based Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP known in Vermont as the One Plan) and Individual Education Plan (IEP) that reflect consideration of family priorities; child concern and needs; access and participation in natural and least restrictive environments; and on-going progress monitoring. Students will learn about best practices, and design evidence based intervention strategies that foster children’s social emotional confidence and competence, acquisition and use of knowledge and skills, and getting their needs met. Students will also learn about and design embedded instruction plans for routines and activities.
