Charles Johnson received the Medal of Honor, posthumously, from President Biden in 2025, seventy years after his extraordinary heroism in Korea, 1953. He was intentionally ignored at that time by military leaders because of his race. Although this popular and talented young Black man's death was deeply grieved by family, friends, and community, the miraculous story was lost for 50 years. Rediscovered by a middle school teacher and his students in 2001, they discovered that the character and values Johnson displayed in Korea were evident throughout his young life and these are now recognized, honored, and promoted at his former school and church.
Frank Pepe
Frank Pepe, retired Superintendent of Schools for the Arlington Central School District, began his career in special and elementary education after graduating from Villanova University. Following coursework at Rowan University and a master’s degree from Rutgers University, he began a rewarding career as Business Administrator, Assistant Superintendent, and then Superintendent of Schools. Following a geographical career path from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and a short stint in Saudi Arabia, he concluded his career in the Arlington Central School District. He has been recognized for his support of the arts in education with a special interest in high school theater. In retirement, he continues to reside in Dutchess County.
