“A Time to be Born and A Time to Die”

Using one religion as an example (in this case, Reform Judaism), we will explore ways in which traditional Jewish teachings provide guidance on issues such as reproductive rights, genetic engineering and assisted suicide. The class will encourage discussion and invite participants from all backgrounds to share their personal perspectives, as well as insights from their own religion’s teachings and traditions.
Renni Altman
Rabbi Renni Altman is the Rabbi Emerita of Vassar Temple in Poughkeepsie, a Reform congregation which she served for seven years. Prior to that position, Rabbi Altman was the Associate Dean and Director of the Rabbinical Program on the New York Campus of Hebrew Union College- Jewish Institute of Religion, the seminary of Reform Judaism. Throughout her rabbinate, Rabbi Altman has served both in congregations and in organizations of the Reform Movement.
