The Rise and Fall of the Liberal Supreme Court

8-weeks | Registration opens 8/28/2026 9:00 AM EDT

This course will examine the famous Supreme Court cases on civil rights, beginning with the1857 Dred Scott case, then the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson "separate but equal" case, the cases leading up to Brown v. Board of Education and, finally, the 1954 Brown v. Board of Education case itself. We will then discuss, as time allows, decisions of the Court dealing with voting rights, gay rights, gun rights, abortion and other civil rights issues.
