Mixed Media Inspired by Romare Bearden

In this mixed media course participants will create small works on canvas inspired by the innovative collage practice of artist Romare Bearden: bringing rural memories, cityscapes, jazz music and classical music together in vibrant compositions. No previous art experience is required.
Suggested Readings: Any books on Romare Bearden that contain imagery
Required Materials: glue stick, 10” x 10” canvas, oil or regular pastels, watercolor set. Participants will reimburse the instructor for these materials (approx. $10-$15).
Randi Chalfin
Randi Chalfin has a master’s degree from Teachers College at Columbia University in Arts Education, and a Certification in Creative Arts Therapy from Adelphi University. She has also completed training in trauma-informed therapy and trauma-informed sand play at the University at Albany School of Social Welfare and School of Education. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, including a recent solo show in Hamburg, Germany. Chalfin will have a solo exhibition at The Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center in Poughkeepsie from December 2026 through January 2027. Chalfin maintains a studio at the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory.
