This will be a slide lecture and discussion of Anita’s experience as a thalamian rower and aulos player on the Trireme Olympias, the only successful reconstruction of an ancient Greek trireme. The trials she participated in were held in 1988 in Poros, Greece.


  • Note: Registration for these classes will begin the Monday prior to each class.
    Lunch may
    not be eaten during class.


Anita Fina Kiewra

Anita Fina Kiewra started rowing in 1987 in Saratoga Springs, NY. She learned of the Trireme Trials from a magazine article and was able to contact the organizers. After submitting her credentials, she was accepted for the 1988 trials in Poros, Greece. Kiewra has been coaching with the Mid-Hudson Rowing Association since she co-founded that community program, and she has held level 1 coaching certification since 1988. She works in community development with Hudson River Housing out of the Community Printmaking Studio at the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory. Remember that rowing is a lifetime sport!
