Harry Hopkins: FDR's Assistant President & Friend
Single Session Class | Available (Membership Required)
Harry Hopkins was President Franklin Roosevelt's closest ally and trusted adviser. Hopkins, Frances Perkins and Roosevelt established the New Deal throughout the 1930's. During WWII, Hopkins was FDR's closest consultant at the Casablanca, Cairo, Tehran and Yalta conferences. FDR had expected and wanted Hopkins to succeed him, and Churchill described Hopkins as "A most extraordinary man, who played. . .a decisive part in the whole movement of the war. A natural leader of men with a flaming soul." Such honorific words! Yet Harry Hopkins is basically an unknown historical figure. This presentation on Harry Hopkins will show much is owed to this extraordinary man.
