1Tue-2D-5b: History of Animated Films

Class | Registration opens 1/19/26 10:00 AM

A “History of Animated Films” will start from the beginning in the late 19th century up to the present, featuring the movies of Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks.  Technical advancements will also be discussed.  Each decade will show how animation has changed over the years. The key contributors will be discussed too.  I may have to limit how much time is devoted to animated films from other countries.  A list of films to watch will be sent before classes begin.

The format will be lecture with plenty of YouTube clips.  Preparation time will depend on the length of the films.

Please note that this class begins on April 7, during the break week.

Bob Tremblay

As a film critic for more than 30 years and a lifelong movie fan, I have seen and reviewed more films than I care to count, many of them animated movies.  As with comedy, it’s also one of my favorite film genres.  This will be the eighth course I have taught at LLAIC.  Previous courses were “Film Appreciation,” “Classical Music Appreciation,” “History of the 1960’s Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “History of 1960’s Television,” “History of 1970s Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “History of the Movie Musical,” and “History of Film Comedy.”
