3Thu-3C-8a: Great Decisions: U.S. Foreign Policy
Class | Registration opens 1/19/26 10:00 AM
This is a course on current U.S. foreign policy issues. The topics and readings are prepared by The Foreign Policy Association (FPA.org). Class members will purchase a briefing book from FPA and will read the selection for each week’s topic. The reading will be discussed in class in addition to other sources brought in by class members or that I add.
The topics will include: America and the World…Trump 2; Trump Tariffs and the Future of the World Economy; US-China Relations; Ruptured Alliances and the Risk of Nuclear Proliferation; Ukraine and the Future of European Security; Multilateral Institutions in a Changing World Order; US Engagement of Africa; The Future of Human Rights and International Law.
A video is usually prepared for each topic by the FPA. I will augment the discussion with relevant videos presented from reliable sources, obtained from YouTube. Participation in the discussions is helpful, but not mandatory. Weekly preparation will be about ten pages of reading for each week’s topic, about half an hour a week.
Please note that the last class is April 30, 2026, and there are no classes on April 2 and 16, 2026.

I’ve taught/led Great Decisions several times over the past few years, always to positive reviews. I read lots of current events material and dig deeply for a better understanding of issues facing the USA. I’m a graduate of Northeastern University and hold a master’s degree from The University of Hard Knocks (fifty years as a business owner). I’m married, with two grown children. For recreation I read, play pickleball, cards, and golf. I’m a lifelong saltwater fisherman as well. My wife and I run BIG FISH Products selling outdoor clothing to raise money for Parkinson’s Disease and cancer research.
