Class | Registration opens 1/27/25 10:00 AM

Americanah, a novel by Chimamanda Adichie, is a love story between Ifemelu and Obinze, two teenagers in love in Nigeria. They each go on to have adventures: she in America and he in London. She studies and starts to blog to understand what “being black” is all about; he is hustling in London while keeping tabs on his former girlfriend. Later and back in Lagos. . . .  “For a long time she stared at him. He was saying what she wanted to hear and yet she stared at him.” This book might be long, but it is very rich. On the New York Times lists of 21st century books, Americanah was listed #19 by readers and #27 by writers and critics. Don’t be left in the dark; take this course.

The format of the class will be group discussion. Preparation time should be approximately 90 minutes per week.

Please note that the last class is during the break week.
